Mission
and Purpose
Our mission is to provide a comfortable home environment, space
and land for small groups to work toward personal transformation,
increased interpersonal awareness, social justice, and compassion
for all sentient beings. We rent the buildings and grounds
to instructors, trainers and facilitators who are looking for
residential space in which to hold their workshops or retreats.
We are particular to leaders who further the greater good through
increased physical, emotional and spiritual health.
Values
White Lotus Retreat Center is grounded in values of deep
listening, understanding, open communication, and loving
kindness. We respect diverse people, ideas, styles and
communities, and seek to promote multicultural awareness
and social justice. We honor learning through humor, play,
experiential, contemplative and cognitive modalities. We
encourage awareness of self and others.
History
White Lotus Retreat Center is a non-sectarian retreat center with Buddhist
history and imagery. Our name White Lotus Retreat Center was given by
Venerable Khenchen Palden Sherab Rinpoche and Khenpo Tsewang
Dongyal Rinpoche of the Nyingma Lineage of Tibetan Buddhism
and founders of Padmasambhava International during the
tenure of Jerry and Chris Rothman, founders of White Lotus Retreat Center
and the Center for Grief Recovery, Chicago. Through their
blessings, our center is meant to be a place of practice:
we are interested in attracting people who value increased
awareness and compassion through slowing down, reflection
and intentionality.
